We have actually shrunk ourselves or have we compromised?
Yes, we took good care of ourselves physically, washing hands, sanitizing,
masks, social distancing etc and abided in whatever ways the Govt.
guidelines were imposed. But what about our mental well-being? The
world is so much at turbulence during this pandemic and that has created
a dent in our mental health too. This is posing as a silent killer.
The prevalence of common mental health disorders is expected to rise
during the post- pandemic time as a result of the long term effects of
the pandemic, the restrictive measures such as social distancing and
quarantine and the socio-economic effects. This has implications for
mental health services.
Our older generation never (or minimal) faced mental health which has
become a concern in the last couple of decades. Yes, the earlier generations
had big families, had dinner together, closer relationships, fights and
communication, tolerance, deeper understanding of various age groups,
co-living, and many more. The present generation lives an island life. We
move away from homes, our smaller cities, to make a ‘life’ for ourselves, to
fulfill our ‘dreams’ but at what cost? People nowadays are up for opening
up their bodies but not their souls. Is it not time to treat humans as more
than just flesh and blood?
Yes, Every Life Matters irrespective of sex, caste, religion, skin or economic
conditions!!! So, let’s communicate, express, talk and open up our minds
and thoughts and help each other to benefit from silent stress and ignorant
depression!
While am writing this, I still hope to see my elder son, all dressed up for the
School Farewell organized for Std XII and for my younger one, impatiently
wait to see the complaints from teachers for the incomplete work by him
in the School Almanac!
